COACHING
The club is committed to growing the sport of lawn bowls, with an active coaching structure playing a key role.
We offer free coaching lessons to support you.

Our three coaches - all of whom are qualified and accredited with the national controlling authority, Bowls South Africa (BSA) - are:

Cedar Ryan
Lorraine de Walder
Nigel Bye

Although it’s possible to arrange coaching at any time throughout the week, most coaching is done on Thursday afternoons.
We have a full range of training bowls varying in size and manufacturer for use during these sessions which will give the student a good idea of what to look for when eventually acquiring their own. All that is needed for the training sessions is a pair of shoes / trainers with a fairly smooth sole.
Novices or anyone keen to learn the sport should ideally do this through a structured lesson plan co-ordinated by the coach. This lessons usually lasts about 8 to 10 hours which means an hour lesson once a week.
This program has been approved by Bowls SA and is followed by all coaches / club throughout South Africa. The lessons cover the technical aspects of bowling:
-
Laws governing bowls
-
Club structure
-
Game formats
-
Etiquette both on and off the green
At the end of the sessions, the novice will be confident to play in any of the club games, knowing they have a good understanding of expectations on the green.

Should you wish to join the coaching sessions, please contact our secretary who will then pass your details onto the team to allocate a coach to you.

We don’t charge for the lessons, but part of that program is understanding the Club’s fee structure going forward.

We look forward to seeing you on the green!
